Well done to Linda Bain who wins her first trophy since lifting the Championship earlier in the year.
A 1-under par 69 today gave her the Faye Allanach Trophy and cuts a little off her handicap, keeping it securely within single figures.
Fiona Findlay was runner up with a 72 and Jane Maclean to third spot with he round of 74.

29th September
Myra LawFIONA
September Medal
Fiona Findlay continued her fine winning form today with an excellent 67. Winning the Bronze Medal by a massive 6 stroke from runner-up Joan Gray.
Myra Law wins the Silver Medal which was always gonna be a good bet as she was the only Silver player today.

Lady Captain's Trophy
The weather was much kinder to us today for this second attempt at playing for the Lady Captain's Trophy. And for the trio of ladies who cut their handicap it was worth the wait.
The original competition was called off after seven holes and it was decided to schedule this extra date to play for the trophy and it could be said justice was done as Jane Maclean, who won the original competiton over seven holes, did it again today with a superb 66. Her determination to get her name on the trophy also gives her a cut in handicap and she will now play-off 33.
Jaci Moriarty prepared for her trip to The Belfry by carding a 68 and a handicap reduction to 16. Eileen Stevenson was the third lady to play under her handicap, taking third place with a 69. Good Shooting girls.

Rebecca Ellis Ford Trophy
The traditional last Tuesday night get-together for this Flag Competition seems to have come around far too quickly once again, marking the end of our summer evenings, where is the time going?.
Violet Paterson's fine efforts enabled her to take the flag a few shots up the 10th (just short of the green) but it was Fiona Findlay who took the flag that bit further, actually reaching the 10th green to win the Rebecca Ellis Ford Trophy and a meal for two.

9th September
SUE AND DIANE

Summer Foursomes Final
Congratulations to Diane Moncrieff and Sue Sayer who triumphed in the Final today despite the best efforts of Linda Bain and Thelma Dey.
Linda and Thelma had the early initiative and were two-up at one stage but the match was all square by the turn and then the match really swung the way of Diane and Sue who found themselves four up after the 14th. Linda and Thelma then won the 15th and when Diane and Sue had to take a penalty drop at the 16th it looked like the match might be extended further but Diane and Sue who were stroking that hole still managed to clinch the half for a fine 3 & 2 win

Pat Meikle wins her second major competition in as many weeks with a fine 68 cutting her handicap in the process. Fiona Findlay follows up her Thursday Stableford win with a 71 and the runner-up spot with Jane Maclean taking third place a further two strokes back.
1st September JACI V COLEEN

Summer Matchplay Final
Having had success as a Greensome pairing at Craigmillar Park and Ratho Park this year, Jaci Moriarty and Coleen Derighetti found themselves playing each other in what turned out to be a closely fought final today.
Coleen got of to a flyer with an early two-hole lead and a couple of holes where she "stole" a half with long putting. Then Jaci began to show the excellent form that has brought her much success this year. Getting the match back to all square then taking a two hole lead by the 12th and by the 15th Jaci went 3-up after a superb tee-shot hit the middle of the green.
Coleen won the 16th, but when her tee-shot at the 17th ended in the greenside bunker and Jaci was just sort of the green the writing was on the wall.
The bunker shot ended up inches from the pin ensuring Jaci had to work for her win. And she duly sunk the putt for a three to half the hole and win the match 2 and 1. Well done pal

30th August Click for bigger picture Thursday Stableford
Fiona Findlay won a very high scoring Stableford today.
Fiona scored an excellent 38 points giving her a narrow win from Val Smith who continued her medal winning form to take the runner-up spot today by the inward half from Helen Borthwick. All three cut their handicap after today's competitions well done to you all.
25th August Click for large picture August Medal
Pat Meikle narrowly won the Silver medal today with a score of 71 by the best inwards half from Jaci Moriarty. Val Smith marked her welcome return to Lochend competitions by winning the bronze section. Val's 69 gave her a five shot win over runner-up Jane Maclean.
19th August Jaci versus Coleen Summer Matchplay
Jaci Moriarty progressed into the Matchplay semi-final with a fine win over Pat Meikle. Playing to par (including a 4 at the 10th) was good a good performance in wet heavy conditions from Jaci who will now play Eileen Stevenson for a place in the Final.

  Summer Foursomes
Diane Moncrieff and Sue Sayers are proving to be a formidable partnership, having now booked their place in the Summer Foursomes final after a convincing win over Joan Gray and Lorna Mackay.
Diane and Sue will meet the winners of the other semi-final where Ruby Curran and Violet Paterson take on Linda Bain and Thelma Dey.

7th August   Summer Matchplay
The quarter final tie between Eunice Reid and Coleen Derighetti turned out to be a very closely fought match. After the excitement of the previous evening's Championship ties this match was relatively tame in the early stages as holes were halfed and exchanged.
Eunice was first to make a breakthrough when she went 2-up after 10 holes and with two "stroking holes" to follow it was looking good for her but ironically it was the stroking holes that let Eunice down and let Coleen back in the tie to be all square by the 13th. Then Coleen went one-up after 14 and it stayed that way until the 18th were a four was enough to take Coleen through to the semi-final to play Joan Gray who is looking to win this competition for a third year in a row.

2nd August   Thursday Stableford
In a reversal of Saturday's Medal Result Violet Paterson took top place in today's Stableford with 37 points and Joan Gray was runner up with 33 points (bih from Pat Meikle). Great preparation for next week's Bronze Championship from Violet and Joan who must both have a great chance.
31st July   Summer Matchplay
Eileen Stevenson takes her place in the semi-final after a closely fought win (at the 17th hole) over Sue Sayer.

28th July   July Medal (2nd Championship Qualifier)
Conditions were pretty blustery making low scoring very difficult today. However Eileen Gillespie carded a 72 to take the Silver from Linda Bain who was runner-up with a 74. This was the final chance to post a score for Championship Qualifying position and today's conditions meant it was always going to be difficult to better last months scores but Eileen and Linda (who have won 7 championships between them) both improved their original scores. Eileen's scratch 82 moves her into the top qualifying position just ahead of Linda's 83.
In the Bronze section, Joan Gray has found the winning feeling at just the right time. Following her fine Summer Matchplay win over Linda Bain last week, Joan carded a handicap-cutting 69 today with Violet Paterson runner-up 2 strokes behind. Ironically this also meant that Joan leap-frogs Violet into the top qualifying position.

1st July   Rab Binnie Competiton
Well done to Jane Maclean who along with Colin Moriarty and Kenny Ferguson formed the winning team in the Rab Binnie competiiton. Great to see one of the ladies in the winning team.
30th June   June Medal (1st Championship Qualifier)
After winning through to the Lochcraig Ladies Championship Final then winning the Craigmillar Park Foursomes. Jaci Moriarty put the icing on the cake today, cutting her handicap after a spectacular 68 won her the Silver medal by a massive 6-strokes from Diane Moncrieff in second place with a 74.
Violet Paterson's 72 was three strokes clear of her nearest rival, Margaret Richards, to win her the Bronze Medal.
Today was the first step in the road to our Championships in August.
Current Champion Linda Bain has so far carded the best qualifying score of 84. Three-times Champion Eileen Gillespie took one stroke more and Jaci Moriarty will take a great deal of confidence with her excellent 85 too. Diane Moncrieff misses the July medal but her 86 should be good enough to get her into the draw.
Yes the object was to get a score posted but for some of us it's a case of thank god we have another chance.

28th June   June Thursday Stableford
Pat Meikle didn't quite make it three in a row, the honours went to Jessie Grahame who won the Stableford with a handicap-cutting 37 points. Jessie left the young ones behind to take a 4-point winning margin from new member Kate Jameson, who take's the runner-up spot with 33 points and Fiona Findlay who carded 29 points to take third place on the better inward half from Pat Meikle PICTURE

Lady Captains Day
Having decided we were going to make today's competition special again, with extra prizes and buffet/wine it was disappointing the the heaven's opened to practically wash out the competition. However there were those who did shine through for the short time we were out.
It was decided to count the scores only up to the 7th as the last players found the 8th and 9th greens were unplayable. This benefited Jane Maclean who played excellent until the rain came, to win the Overall prize. Pat Meikle won the Silver with Coleen Derighetti r/up, Ruby Curran was first Bronze and Eunice Reid a close r/up. Many thanks to all of you who made the effort to play in what were absolutely horrendous conditions.
On the bright side, the shorter competition did give us longer to enjoy the food, wine and laughs afterwards oh yes we certainly did that to the full didn't we girls?

19th June   Linda Dewar Trophy
Fiona Findlay scored a handicap slashing 65 to take the Linda Dewar Trophy by 3-strokes tonight.
Jane Connachan's coaching skills were given a great advert as Jaci Moriarty and Coleen Derighetti both carded 68 (Jaci taking the runner-up spot on the better inward half in a round that also included no less than three penalty strokes).
I'm sure the PGA Professional will have a busy class next week if that's what she can do for us after only one lesson. Linda Bain was the other player under par with a fine 69.
18th June

Last week Sue Sayer played the game of her life to knock Diane Moncrieff out of the Summer Matchplay. This week they were paired together in the Foursomes and were both successful winning their match against Sandra Fairgrieve and Margaret Richards.
Diane and Sue march on into the Semi-finals and will be a formidable team for whoever they play in the semi-final.
Another player who defeated her foursomes partner this week was Pat Meikle. Who duly knocked out Helen Borthwick in the singles following their exit from the foursomes at the hands of Linda Bain and Thelma Day.

1st June

Summer Foursomes
The top two from yesterdays Stableford were teamed up against two other May competition winners as Pat Meikle and Fiona Findlay took on Nicola Moriarty and Helen Borthwick.
With all four ladies playing off new handicaps due to recent successes, it was always going to be a tough one to call. However it's Pat and Fiona who secured their place in the next round by way of a 3 & 2 win. They now meet Linda Bain and Thelma Day in the quarter finals.

31st May

May Thursday Stableford
Excellent scoring today as Pat Meikle makes it two in a row in the second of our Monthly Stableford competitions. With bad luck having plagued her recent very good performances today's handicap busting 40-points must taste all the sweeter.
Fiona Findlay was runner-up with 38 points, Joan Gray and Eunice Reid, who has been very successful of late winning medals at Musselburgh, both scored 37, Joan taking 3rd place on the best inward half.

31st May

Matchplay Round-up
In the Summer Matchplay Nicola Moriarty held on to win her first round match despite a valiant come-back from Patsy Miller. Having saw a five-up lead slip away Nicola did eventually take the tie at the 18th hole and now meets Linda Bain in the 2nd round.
Helen Borthwick continued her good run of form with a 3&2 win over Thelma Day and will be a couple of strokes lighter when she takes on Pat Meikle in the second round and Fiona Findlay won her tie with Jessie graham and meets Jaci Moriarty in the 2nd round.

26th May

May Medal
Nicola Moriarty scored a five stroke win today, taking her second bronze medal in a row and has now cut her handicap to 31, Linda Hutchinson was runner-up with 72 by the better inward half from Sue Sayer.
Diane Moncrieff returned to winning ways after a lean period, carding a 71 (despite an 8 at the 7th). Diane won it on the better inward half from Jaci Moriarty.
Helen Borthwick, looked good to blow the field away with an amazing score until a couple of horrendous holes scuppered her round. If I tell you her stableford adjustment was 12 strokes, you'll get the idea. Well done though, Helen has still slashed her handicap.

23rd May

Friendly match V Swanston
A friendly draw against the Ladies from Swaston was a fitting result tonight.
With Coleen Derighetti, Nicola Moriarty and Patsy Miller losing their matches, it was left to Jaci Moriarty, Diane Moncrieff and Eileen Borhwick to level up the match with fine wins, well done !

15th May

Tuesday Girl Trophy
Well done to Helen Borthwick who won the Tuesday Girls Par Competition tonight, beating the course 4-up which is one of the best ever wins in this competition in which we all play matchplay against the course.
Coleen was runner-up with a 3-up win and Jaci Moriarty finished in third place with an all square result. Jaci's round included an eventful 5th hole where she holed a fabulous second shot from over 100 yards. After the celebrations had subsided we then realised that our Jac had actually played the wrong ball and therefore lost the hole. To her credit it didn't get her down in fact it inspired her to play even better for the rest of the round and card a decent score.
Helen and Coleen both cut handicaps a result of tonight's efforts. Previous Winners

14th May

Summer Foursomes
First match in the Summer Foursomes and it turned out to be a very close run thing in the end.
Patsy Miller and Jane Maclean made good use of their handicaps and played very well to find themselves 4-up after 13 holes and looking to be cruising to a win over Jaci and Coleen.
However a late flourish from Jaci and Coleen in which they won the 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th extended the match up the first again. But Patsy and Jane still had one more good hole left and eventually won the match at the first extra hole to progress into the next round.
Another glorious failure for yours truly

12th May

Coronation Foursomes
The Stableford scores may not have been great today but there was a hint of drama as Linda Bain and Eileen Gillespie regained the Coronation Foursomes Trophy they last won in 2005.
Having got off to a great start, Linda and Eileen began by playing the golf that has saw them share the the last 5 Ladies Championships and at one stage today were 5 points clear of their playing partners, last years Coronation Fours Winners Coleen and Jaci who were not having the best day (to say the least).
However over the last seven holes Coleen and Jaci started to score a few points coinciding with Linda and Eileen getting less of the breaks and their putts suddenly not dropping, to get to within a putt to equal Linda and Eileen's 31 points total. That putt lipped out, and Coleen/Jaci were left with 30 points and would rue those drives that sprayed into the rough or shots that stayed in the bunkers.
Linda and Eileen had to wait (and wait!) to find out if they had carded an unlikely winning total. Diane Moncrieff and Nicola Moriarty came in with 28 points. Then, at long last, the posse of six at the end came in. Only Pat Meikle and Eunice Reid's score of 28 came anywhere close so Linda and Eileen were at last confirmed as winners and will represent Lochend in the Coronation Foursomes Area Final in June. Best of luck to you girls.

1st May   The first result in our summer matchplay competition saw Pat Meikle win through at the 16th hole in her match with Lorna Mackay. revised draw
28th April   Sunny but blustery conditions accounted for a number of high scores today. However Nicola Moriarty managed to card a 69 to win the Bronze Medal and ensure her handicap is going in the right direction (down to 34). New member Helen Borthwick took the runner-up spot with 73.
In the Silver Medal, Linda Bain recovered from a tough start to card an excellent back nine in 36 strokes. Her round of 70 was enough to win the Silver from Jaci Moriarty who finished with a 72.
26th April

The first Thursday Morning Stableford was won by Pat Meikle with a creditable 32 points. A fitting reward for Pat who suggested and organised this new event. She even organised some glorious weather.

Good luck to the ladies who are competing in the first of our new Thursday Morning Stableford Competitions this week.
As Captain I am delighted to see the ladies have responded so positively to Pat Meikle's idea of having a Stableford on the last Thursday of the month. It will create a little more incentive and will make full use of our Thursday morning times.
Such was the response to this weeks event it looks likely that extra tee times may be needed in future.
Unfortunately some of us have to work so I am pondering over what "ailment" I could have once a month that a male boss would not question too much. I believe Eunice Reid came up with a great idea.
14th April

April Stableford
Fiona Findlay secured her first Lochend Competition win today taking the Stableford with a fine 40 points. Eunice Reid took the runner-up spot with 38 points and Jaci Moriarty was 3rd with 37 points. All three have cut their handicap as a result of their efforts today Fiona, cutting her handicap by 2, now plays of 34.
