Swanston's Louise Angus played the 'round of her life' to blow Craigentinny
and her handicap apart. Her 57 was never going to be beaten and from early on
the rest of us were playing for second place. Dorothy Gibson (Musselburgh
Old Course) also carded a super round, a 65 won her the Bronze Handicap prize.
Former Lochend member Margaret Thompson (now Longniddry) scored 67 to win the
Silver Handicap. Royal Musselurgh's Christine Hogg came in with 68 to take 2nd
Bronze handicap and Eileen Dundas, also Royal Musselburgh took the 1st Silver
Scratch prize with an 82 by one stroke from another former Lochender, Suzanne
Ireland (now of Prestonfield) who also took the nearest the pin in 2 at the 18th. Lochenders
didn't exactly dominate on the prizes front but we did have our success stories.
Linda Bain, was the only Lochend Lady to come in under par, her 69 gave her
the Best Lochend Lady prize and for the second year in a row Linda hit the longest
drive at the 11th. Jaci Moriarty, had lead the Lochend Lady competition from the
first tee-off time, only to be ousted by Linda who played in the final tee time.
However Jaci's 70 won her the 3rd Bronze Handicap. Linda Hutchinson and Pat
Meikle both just missed out on the prizes due to the countback rule, Eileen Gillespie
missed both Silver Scratch and Handicap prizes by a single stroke and I'm almost
embarrassed to tell you that Coleen's 73 included a crazy 4-putt on the 17th after
hitting the green with a drive. I need help!! To the winner the spoils and
Louise Angus rushed back from an afternoon competition at Swanston (playing off
her brand new handicap) to collect the trophy along with the Nearest the Pin at
the 17th where she also won a share of the 2 sweep (with Terry Reekie, Gullane).
Like most of our visitors Louise praised the event, organization and condition
of the course, Craigentinny has never looked so good. So this will go down
as year of the former members and old friends, with Royal Musselburgh and Musselburgh
Old Course fairing well in the prizes and of course it was the year of the 57.
It was heartening to see so many visitors come back for the prizegiving. The overall
friendliness of Lochend is always a winner and ensures so many return year after
year, well done to you all!! |
