Ladies Open returns with a mighty good result for Mayte.
Great to see the return of the Lochend Ladies Open with a healthy entry and a home win.
Our recently joined Spanish member, Mayte Vaamonde, continued her fine form and then some with a fantastic 59 to become only the third Lochend Lady ever to lift the trophy.
Mayte was obviously delighted with the round of her life as well as a new lower handicap.
Another Lochender who had a superb day was Diane Moncrieff. Not only did Diane shoot the best scratch score of the day (a fantastic 73) giving her the Best Lochend Lady prize for a net 63 she was also nearest the pin at the 4th, Longest Drive at the 11th, Nearest the pin at the 14th and took the prize for lowest number of putts. Another incredible round made all the more impressive by the fact there were only 4 players who broke par.
One of those was our Captain Fiona Findlay who, despite all the organising duties, shot a 69 to win the 1st Bronze Handicap. More Lochend success came from Eileen Gillespie who, despite not putting well, took the Silver Scratch prize for her 81 and Mandy McBain was 3rd Silver Handicap on the better inward half from Coleen Derighetti and, just as in 2008, Pat Meikle took the Seniors prize.
There was a Prestonfield 1-2 in the Silver Handicap section won by Liz Moodie (69) from runner-up Suzanne Ireland (71) and Rhona Archibald (Turnhouse) won the Bronze scratch.
Pauline Waugh from Turnhouse made her first visit to the Lochend Open and, after taking the Bronze Nearest the Pins at the 5th, 8th and 17th, Longest drive at the 11th as well as the 2nd Bronze Handicap (72) she assures me it won't be her last.
Well done to the Ladies Committee and Edinburgh Leisure who worked together to negotiate a deal to ensure today's event was possible. Thanks to the many sponsors who ensure Lochend have a very healthy prize table indeed. And of course it would not happen without the support of our visitors. After last years cancellation if was great to see such a good turnout and the return of many regulars who continue to support the event. welcome back all.
CSS for Home and Away was 70
